Valley Vista High Students Go Above and Beyond for Wittmann Event
Students from Valley Vista High School assisted with compiling READY, SET, GO! Bags emergency materials for the Wittmann Public Safety Night brought to you by Wittmann, AZ Emergency Alerts.
The students were invaluable in assembling the over 1,000 bags necessary for the safety event. “The teachers and students are really excited about the project,” said Dr. Cheryl Martin, the Exceptional Student Specialist for Valley Vista High School. “I hope we can make this an annual event for them,” Dr. Martin added.
The goal of the event is to integrate our community with public safety and inform the community on what to do in case of an emergency or evacuation. Wittmann is a rural and spread-out community surrounded by dry desert and brush, as well as occasional flowing washes during rainy seasons. Urban sprawl is making our community grow quite rapidly with an influx of new residents who may not be familiar with rural living.
“We are hoping this event will raise awareness of rural living and provide a level of comfort to newcomers knowing what to do in case of emergency,” said Jay Phillips-Vo, Owner and Reporter of Wittmann, AZ Emergency Alerts. “We would also like the community to interact with public safety to develop a positive relationship,” Jay Phillips-Vo continued.
The Wittmann Public Safety Night will be held on November 5th, 2021, from 5pm to 7pm at the Nadaburg Elementary School, 32919 N. Center St. Wittmann, AZ 85361. The event will have bounce houses, food vendors, deputies, troopers, firefighters, a helicopter landing and much more. Saguaro Janes Corporation, known as the food bank in Wittmann will be accepting monetary, clothing, and non-perishable items donations at the South Field.
